Saturday, 25 April 2026: Sketchcrawl at Vogesenplatz/St. Johann Station, Basel

At St. Johann railway station, behind the ‘Stellwerk’, there is a fascinating spot. In the lovingly landscaped ‘Il Giardino Urbano’, you can wander along the winding path at any time and linger on garden furniture beside old tracks and carriages, cosily nestled amongst the greenery, with a view of the steam rising from the waste incineration plant in the distance.

The view from the bridge, accessible by lift, is also well worth a visit. The former Stellwerk is now an attractive workplace and a hub for cultural and creative professionals from all sectors. There is also a steam bath here with an original entrance design.

The view of Vogesenplatz in front of the signal box offers plenty of everyday scenes. At 2 pm, the stalls of the weekly market are being dismantled, but the square provides plenty of subjects with its seating areas and green spaces, bridge, spiral staircase, Coop entrance, tram stop with pergola, passers-by and distinctive buildings.

Meeting point: 2.00 pm at the St. Johann railway station tram stop, under the roof of the old customs hall to the right of the Stellwerk. We will also meet there at 4.00 pm to show each other our sketches.
